Information About Justice For
Daniel Faulkner And This Web Site On July 3, 1982, having heard weeks of testimony, a jury of 12 citizens sentenced Mumia Abu-Jamal to death for the premeditated murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. Over the next 19 years, Jamal's case has become one of the most publicized Death Penalty cases in the world. It has also become the most misunderstood. The twisted tales about this case are many. They have been told and retold by countless individuals who know little or nothing of the actual facts of the case. This web site has been established and is maintained by a group of private citizens who believe that an accurate source of information is needed to bring balance and truth to those who are interested in this matter. We are not affiliated with any police organization. We are simply a group of individuals that has grown tired of seeing the outrageous distortions that various Jamal supporters have spread unchallenged, through the media and on the internet. We have gone to great lengths to research the true facts of this case and present them here for the first time. We will continue our research and update this site in the future. Your comments are welcome. Mumia Abu-Jamal, his attorneys and his supporters have reaped handsome profits from the murder of Officer Faulkner. Mr. Jamal has been permitted to keep his earnings from two books he has published while on Death Row. He regularly works as a commentator from Death Row and he has gained international notoriety because of his crime. His attorneys, as well as several groups supporting him stage regular speaking engagements around the world promoting their cause. They have received thousands of dollars in donations for their efforts. Our motivation for establishing this site is to see justice done and to prevent people from profiting off the murder of a Police Officer. |

We acknowledge that there will always be individuals who will champion the cause of an individual like Mumia Abu-Jamal. It is their right to do so. Our hope however, is that once decent people have the truth about this case made available to them, they will stop the flow of blood money to Mumia Abu-Jamal and abandon him to the fate that he was sentenced to over 16 years ago. Mumia Abu-Jamal is a twisted sort of hero to some. He's become the latest poster boy for the anti-death penalty movement. The groups supporting him care little of his guilt. Rather they are intent on using him and his case as tools to chip away at the Death Penalty in the United States. We hope you will take the time to read the information contained on this site with an open mind and determine for yourself if he warrants this status. GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING THIS SITE The Justice for Daniel Faulkner web site first went on line in April 1997. Then, as now, our goal is to provide a place where those interested in this case can find the truth. Initially, the core of our site was a document produced by our organization called, "The Myths About Mumia." The "Myths" are still posted as one of the main ways in which we refute the lies told by Mumia Abu-Jamal's attorneys and supporters. However, since 1997, we have added new information and expanded our site to include documents that both support our positions and provide those who are interested with additional sources of factual information about the case. These features, including the "Myths About Mumia" exist to debunk the dishonest propaganda that is circulated by Mumia Abu-Jamal's lawyers and supporters. The goal of this propaganda is to dupe others, primarily young people, into believing that Jamal is an innocent man who didn't receive a fair trial. Our list of "myths" was compiled from various printed materials distributed by Jamal's adherents, from books and articles written by Jamal's attorneys, and legal briefs that have been filed on Jamal's behalf. We are frequently contacted by those who are sympathetic to Jamal's claims and asked: "Why should we believe you?" It's a valid question. To support our findings, we have posted information from as many neutral sources as possible. We have included the entire 1982 trial transcripts -- something you will not find on any pro-Jamal site. We will soon be posting the 1996, 1997 and 1998 appeal hearing transcripts. We also post the 1998 Pennsylvania Supreme Court opinion on Jamal's appeal. We have also posted every article written about this case by the Philadelphia Inquirer (Philadelphia's leading newspaper), dating from the day after the shooting to the present. Further, we post the transcript from the ABC program 20/20 (a program that has received the highest honors for their journalistic prowess and integrity), which shows the result of an investigation conducted by ABC News -- results that Jamal's adherents would prefer that you did not see. Likewise, we have posted the entire article written by Pulitzer Prize winning author Buzz Bissinger for Vanity Fair magazine. If you don't believe something we have written, or you feel we have somehow distorted information, you can look up the original source information from the trial transcript, for yourself, on this site. As always, we invite anyone who wishes to differ with our positions to contact us at Justice4df@earthlink.net. Based on such feedback we have on several occasions changed the wording of the "Myths" to make our positions as accurate as possible. This practice will continue for as long as this site remains on line. By no means is our list of "myths" complete. As long as there are individuals willing to believe that unsubstantiated theory and wild speculation are reality, but that verifiable fact is fiction, new "myths" will continue to be created by Jamal's supporters. We believe that the list of "myths" currently posted here addresses the most egregious falsehoods that have been spread to date. Because there has been limited factual information available regarding this case prior to our site going on line in 1997, unknowing people around the world have accepted the "myths" about Mumia Abu-Jamal and his case as being founded in truth. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is ethically restricted from making public arguments concerning cases with pending appeals, such as this one. Therefore, Jamal's defenders have been able to spread a distorted version of the events surrounding this case, virtually unchecked until we went on line in 1997. THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE MYTHS If the information contained in "The Myths About Mumia," the trial transcripts, the Supreme Court decision and the other documents posted on this site, are reviewed with an open mind, the calculated system of distortion and deceit used by Jamal's attorneys and his supporters becomes clear. Each myth created by Jamal's supporters is intended to appeal to an unknowing listener's sense of fair play and justice, while at the same time evoking a response of outrage and hatred against the allegedly racist, corrupt and unjust legal system. To promote and support their employer, Jamal's lawyers skillfully extract selected facts and segments of testimony and present them out of context. Alternatively, when no advantageous "sound bites" are available, they simply invent supposed facts out of thin air. These distortions spin a highly emotional tale that paints Jamal as a victim of the allegedly "oppressive and racist" legal system. Since few of Jamal's supporters are inclined to do the work necessary to find out the actual facts, they have accepted the pro-Jamal "myths" as reality. However, in addition to being ridiculed by every legitimate news agency that has reviewed the record over the past 19 years, each of these "myths" has also been reviewed by over a dozen appellate court judges and been rejected as calculated distortions. In a court of law there are rules of evidence that must be adhered to; in the court of public opinion there are no such rules. There is absolutely no evidence or testimony that has been submitted in a court of law that points to Mumia Abu-Jamal's innocence. Therefore, Jamal's handlers have chosen to try this case in the court of public opinion. THE RESEARCH DONE BY When we began this project in 1995, we wanted to be certain that we were accurate in our presentation of the facts. Members of Justice for Daniel Faulkner invested 2 years to research and develop "The Myths About Mumia". Prior to going on line, we analyzed and cataloged over 10,000 pages of transcripts from the 1982 trial and the 1995, 1996, and 1997 appeal hearings. We copied and reviewed media interviews with many of the individuals who are involved in the case. Further, members of our organization personally questioned individuals who have been deeply involved in the case. We reviewed all the written statements given to the police by the pertinent witnesses and members of our organization also attended every day of the hearings. Subsequent to the 1997 posting of "The Myths About Mumia", we reviewed the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's 1998 ruling to be certain of our fairness, and accuracy of our posted findings. Having completed that review we found that the 7 state Supreme Court Justices came to the same conclusions that we had over a year earlier -- Mumia Abu-Jamal is a guilty, remorseless murderer who received a fair trial in 1982. Since then, we have added segments of the Supreme Court's decision to the "Myths" sections to support our positions. Prior to writing "The Myths About Mumia", we spent the better part of a year compiling as much information as possible about Jamal's own arguments. In addition to doing hours of research on the Internet reviewing the information presented there, we relied on the ironically-named book "Race for Justice" by Leonard Weinglass -- Jamal's main lawyer. Members of Justice for Daniel Faulkner also attended and recorded several lectures given by Leonard Weinglass, where he presented his own unique and slanted version of the facts of this case. We have reviewed each of the legal briefs that have been filed in support of Mumia Abu-Jamal, and while reviewing the court transcripts we looked closely at the testimony given by defense witnesses with an open mind, in order to evaluate their credibility. Additionally, to update and improve the information contained on this site, we have also used arguments for and against Jamal that we have received via email. OUR PURPOSE IN CREATING THIS WEB SITE As stated in our charter, the purpose of Justice for Daniel Faulkner is "to preserve the memory of Police Officer Daniel Faulkner and to spread the truth about the way in which he died." We feel the documents posted here should serve two purposes: to enlighten anyone who reads them with the actual facts of the case, and to shed the light of truth on the well-financed propaganda campaign orchestrated by Mumia Abu-Jamal's attorneys and his supporters around the world. We will not allow them to turn a murderer into a hero. Thank you for taking the time to review the information we have posted. A great deal of time and effort has been committed to the development and maintenance of this site. We hope it provides an education on how the radical left spins its twisted web.
