FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Franklin Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia will host the ceremonies for the 3rd Annual "Daniel Faulkner Memorial Motorcycle Run" on June 3, 2001. "We are excited to have Franklin Mills Mall host our ceremonial program," said Les Young, Chairman of Bikers Allied to Commemorate Uniformed Police, Inc. (B.A.C.-U.P.), the New Jersey 501(c)3 nonprofit group that organizes the event. "We believe the backdrop of Franklin Mills Mall will create a more community-based atmosphere and attract a wider range of both participants and spectators." WPHT talk-show host, Michael Smerconish, will act as Master of Ceremonies, with keynote speakers including Philadelphia Judge Seamus McCaffery, the run's Grand Marshall, and Maureen Faulkner, Daniel's widow. Performers will include local country recording artists Amethyst singing the National Anthem, Philadelphia Police and Fire Pipe and Drum Band and the Philadelphia Honor and Rifle Guard. Immediately following the ceremonies, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., Jillian's Restaurant will offer a free buffet to run participants. Come join the celebration and enjoy the live musical entertainment provided by C. C. Lawmen. A solemn and peaceful effort to pay tribute to slain Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner and fellow law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, the annual run has emerged into one of the area's most prolific charitable motorcycle events, with thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout the Eastern Seaboard participating, despite the pouring rain that has accompanied this event for its first two endeavors. Since inception in 1999, B.A.C.-U.P. has proudly donated $62,000 to the following Delaware Valley nonprofit organizations that support the families of slain officers:
B.A.C.-U.P. attributes this achievement to the continued generosity of the business community. Geno's Steaks of 9th and Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia is once again "Official Run Sponsor", with "Platinum Sponsorship" donations received from Pennock Company - Wholesale Florist; Delaware Valley Chapter of Pennsylvania A.B.A.T.E.; Conveyor Services and Installation, Inc.; Haymond Napoli Diamond, PC; Jim Biven's Oil Tank and Boiler Removal Service; Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson and newcomers Walter H. McKeon, Inc.; Armadillo Signs & Graphics, Inc.; Lee D. Gaber, Esq. - The Cycle Lawyer, The Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, and Hooter's Restaurant of Bensalem. The run will stage at AMC 24 Theatres in Hamilton, NJ from 8 - 11 a.m., with radio station WNJO 94.5 - NJ Oldies broadcasting live from the site, and WPHT's talk radio host Dom Giordano orchestrating the pre-run activities. The parade of motorcycles will depart promptly at 12 noon and travel along Interstate 95 to Route 1 South in Langhorne, PA. The bikes will continue along Route 1 and traverse along the recently-dedicated Daniel Faulkner Memorial Highway, eventually entering the Franklin Mills Mall via Knights Road. Young indicated that some of plans are pending final approval, but B.A.C.-U.P. will disseminate information as it becomes available. "A run of this magnitude is a year-long planning process with infinite details that must be addressed. Therefore, a visit to our web site, www.bacup4699.org will provide the most current information available regarding logistics, timetable and ceremonial program."
